As we hit the middle of summer I thought it would be fun to share some of the music I've enjoyed this summer thus far old and new. Just something a little more simple and hopefully you'll find a new artist to listen to. Enjoy!
#1 Danny Don't You Know-Ninja Sex Party
NSP is known for their comedy albums and while this does still fit within that theme, it's a super cute and catchy song with the message of that you might be a nerdy kid now but you have a bright future. Plus the accompanying video is really rad, even including Finn Wolfhard as young Danny.
#2 Crush-Tessa Violet
The first time I went through this song I didn't really have an opinion on it, I was kind of neutral. With continued listening, though, I began to really enjoy it and would listen to it over and over again and now it's really grown on me and it's a super cute song.
#3 Give Yourself A Try-The 1975
This was a song where it seemed quite a few people didn't like it at first and began to enjoy it or just flat out didn't like it due to the brash instrumentals. I personally was worried at first when people were saying it wasn't great but then I ended up liking it once I went into it. The harsh instrumental with the softer vocals from Matty I think is an interesting combination and I quite enjoy it.
#4 idontwannabeyouanymore-Billie Eilish
There's so many lines in this song that literally feel as though they were taken from my depressed brain which make this song connect to me pretty closely. If you need an emotional song about self reflection and not liking what you see, this is for you. There's a lot of bops on her EP though to brighten up your day after which I highly recommend.
#5 We Are Golden-Mika
The line "I live for glitter not you." is enough to make this song amazing. Of course you also have Mika's always amazing vocals, her personally gives me a bit of a Freddie Mercury vibe at times which really draws me to his music. This and 'Blame It On The Girls' have been playing through my head so much recently.
#6 Serial Killer-Lana Del Rey
Now I'm not quite sure as to if you can actually purchase this song but I know it's on youtube which is what I generally listen to it on, I just remember seeing it as a recommended song once and someone made an edit with the song over clips from 'Jennifer's Body' and I was sold. It's just really nice like everything Lana has done and I love it a lot.
#7 Daddy Issues-The Neighbourhood
This is another prime example of me hearing this song by being lured in with a video edit with scenes from a bunch of movies I like, fairly sure it was like American Horror Story, Lolita, American Beauty, and some other things. It's one of my favorite songs to play when I'm in the car at night, it just fits the ambiance really well.
This came out a few years ago now but it's still such a beautifully atmospheric tune to listen to. Their album 'Pool' in general is something I can just turn on and chill to and I love it dearly because of that. Plus I listened to it a bit while walking around NYC in the evening with my sister so I have that association with it too.
#9 On The Lips-Frankie Cosmos
Frankie Cosmos has a lot of simple songs that are generally pretty short in length but they still give the impact and joy a more traditional song would give you. This song is just really cute and I love it a lot and I first heard it via a video of a live performance on youtube and there are streamers in the background and it's super upbeat I love it.
#10 Let My Baby Stay-Mac DeMarco
This song is just super warm and soft and cute and it's just genuinely really amazing. I genuinely have nothing else to say it's just really great and a nice car jam.
Nice song that came out about a month ago from Finn Wolfhard's band. It's a sound I really enjoy and it kind of reminds me of the movie Electrick Children for some reason, can't explain why but I just feel like it'd fit in the soundtrack for that film for whatever reason.
#12 She-Dodie Clark
This is one of those songs where you love it even more because you've connected it with an important moment/person in your life. It's a song that makes me incredibly happy but then also incredibly sad. I just recently revisited the song and it brought back a bunch of really happy memories and the realization that you only have memories now. So kind of sad but also a cute song? I don't know, it just means a lot to me and I'm sure a few other people can find similarities in their personal lives and the song so I recommend.
Okie dokie that's a wrap on this folks! I hope you were able to find a new jam to listen to and if so feel free to let me know!
