For my first Article I wanted to cover one of the most important topics when it comes to communities like this. Safety! Whether you are into pet play, cg/l, Bdsm, you're a Furry, or you are a Therian, there are dangers out there. We here at Neko Palace don't want any of you cuties getting hurt!
Pet play is a sub-genre of BDSM, so first things first, make sure it’s always safe, sane, and consensual. The first way to stay safe in a pet play community is to not get involved with fake dominants. These are men or women who are either looking for nudes, sexting, and submissives over the internet for their own selfish reasons (usually does not understand BDSM at all, or a dominant who abuses the power exchange.) Please do not get involved with these kinds of people. They are extremely easy to find on social networking sites and hiding behind technology.
Good ways to spot a fake dom are:
• Calls you pet names as soon as they meet you like: kitten, baby girl/boy, prince(ss), kitty, pet, good girl/boy
• Telling you that you can’t say no to them
• Telling you that they don’t use safe words
• Bribing in any sort of way (saying they’ll buy you gear)
• Them telling you to call them dom names right away (i.e. daddy, sir, master, ect.)
• Sending nudes
• Only talking to you when they’re horny or ‘in the mood’
Make sure you stay safe in the BDSM community. You are always aloud to say your safe word. You still have control of the situation, even if you are the submissive. Not only with dominants, but in any kind of play and in sharing your lifestyle online in general.
Furries and Therians: While I do not have personal experience as either of these, I know that dangers in this community include conventions and not being careful not to stereotype yourself as what the media portrays as the bad type of these types of people.
The last topic on safety that I want to cover today is kink shaming. If you are public about being a kitten, there is a large chance that you may be criticized. Please do not be affected by these shallow remarks. You all are beautiful, adorable, and perfect just the way you are. There is no limit to being a kitten. There are no restrictions, no requirements, and no stereotype that you have to fit. If you classify as a kitten, you are a kitten, and you are perfect.
