HI FLOOFS! Welcome back! This article will be talking about photo shoots, how i cope with them and even arrange them! I hope this will be helpful to some of the gorgeous kittens reading this meow!
FIRSTLY, Photo shoots are not easy. They mostly involve a concept, location, photographer, outfit and also time.. ALOT of time! (MAKE SURE TO TAKE TREATS!) and this can be quite time consuming as well as making sure everyone is available at the time you would like to shoot. In this regard it is best to choose a month you have availability and give your photographer of choice the options of choosing a date for that month. This shows flexibility but also shows them that you care they are taking time to do a shoot with you! (they will be more willing to work with you again in the future!)
But how does one find a photographer you ask? Have a look around at local events, photography groups for your state/country and also ask friends! You never know who you might come across. Mine started with a friend recommendation and went from there. There are different types of photographers so make sure you research to get one that suits your style and comfort zone. Also look at pages like model mayhem as they can have a solid resource centre and feedback from shoots from other models as well as giving you the chance to work with other models.
Photographers can also put call outs for TFP shoots. TFP means “trade for print” so essentially they trade their time with you for a set number of images you can keep and show everyone! Others arrange paid shoots due to their style and experience. I find it’s best to get both as it enhances your portfolio and paid shoots tend to be in studios giving a more professional feel and look. Don't be perturbed by either one as it helps you gain experience. Now you have your photographer(s), it's time to think concept! Concepts to me can vary depending on mood but also if i am working or in a group/partnership. When doing shoots alone try and do a theme that makes you the most comfortable and the reason i say this is if you are working with someone new it will make it so much easier on you because you can get into the character and forget about being nervous!
When working in pairs or groups just have fun with it! Let your creative side out and feed off from each other and learn together. Most photographers (experienced) will be able to show you poses that work for you with what you have so make the most of it! Take notes if you need to and don’t be afraid to tell the photographer your preferences. For example: I hate my arms showing in photos but love my legs so i make sure the photographer knows this or dress in a way that shows my best assets.
Once you become comfy not only with what your body can do in a shoot, costuming and even working alone thats when you can start to have a lot of fun with it. My next one i want to try and incorporate music into it and dance to it. This will make my body move in different ways but also lend itself to being more creative with my photographer. Having just moved states I am looking into photography in my area now so much like a first timer where i need to get comfortable to find a regular photographer. Right now i would be looking if i was in Perth but alas i am no longer there so the hunt begins!
And if you can’t afford new things: closet outfits are more than perfect as it will be a reflection of who you are daily and it will be in your style, This will again help with comfortability when shooting with a photographer on your own as you will know the outfit and how you look in it :)
SO GO OUT THERE AND HAVE FUN MEOW! If you want any more hints or tips please feel free to leave a comment and i will do my best to assist!
