When starting out in the community it can be hard to get in, let alone make friends that are also into being a kitten.
I've not been in the community for long, about 8 months, but I feel like I can offer a handful of tips and tricks for those looking on how to make friends.
First thing to learn is, just because they share the same interests, does not mean you'll be compatible as friends, I was naive at first and thought this and, its not true in most cases ;-;
First off, creating a social media account. You can honestly do this almost anywhere, tumblr, twitter, instagram, fetlife, whatever you feel most comfortable on.
Your account doesnt have to be specifically around being a kitten etc, but it does help!
To use this account to find other people like you, can search up specific hashtags like #nekomimi etc, and like a few posts. If you really enjoy someones account, give them a follow, maybe leave them a comment? If they reply, they've started off with noticing you and one day you might be able to become close friends.
Also, whenever you post content, you can also use similar hashtags to help those with the same interests find you.
Don't be afraid to shoot someone a message! If they don't reply, dont take it to heart, in this community most DM's are pervy so most avoid replying or even checking them. Maybe you can ask them a question in the initial message? Not too personal! Maybe their favourite animal or what they do to pass time?
My second point, would be finding a community similar to Neko Palace.
At the moment Neko Palace applications are open until January 1st so feel free to apply!
There is another way to make friends through this site tho, if you go to the 'kittens' page, you'll be able to view each kittens full profile which links to their social medias, most of our kittens are always willing to make new friends, so feel free to check out their social medias and send them a message! Neko Palace does plan to add extra features in the future which should make it easier to make kitten friends, however updates like that take time and money. Feel free to head to the support page to find out how you can help!
Theres many other communities than Neko Palace tho that you should check out, also, if you're comfortable with getting a bit personal, theres loads of Facebook groups alike.
My third tip is mutual friends! Once you've made a few friends within the community, they sometimes might suggest you to check out one of their friends and potentially befriend them due to other similar interests outside of being a kitten. Also, sometimes these mutual friends friendships happen because you end up having a conversation on a friends picture in the comments.
My last tip, is to not be shy about your kitten space. This doesn't mean telling anyone and everyone about your kitten space, but uploading pictures in your kitten ears or setting your profile picture as such or even just wearing gear in public, can sometimes get people to confront you or be like "Why are you wearing that?" "are you a neko?". Not everyone will know of it, so be selective of who you tell. You can always pass it off as just a fashion statement/accessory, or just because they make you happy. But you never know, someone wearing kitten ears in their profile picture might pop up to you one day to start a friendship!
I hope these tips are somewhat useful. There are my personal tips that I use and have found useful to make friends with. I now have several kemonomimi friends from all types of communities. Good luck on finding friends within this community!c': Remember, not all friendships are not meant to last, but enjoy it while its there and smile because it happened.
